Sammy (fka Suzanne), who came to us from the SPCA, had her surgical consult today with our soft tissue surgeon. It was determined that surgery will be necessary to help prevent ongoing UTIs and future infections, with a plan in place to first scope her in order to better understand her anatomy and determine exactly where she is urinating from. This step will guide the surgical approach and ensure that no structures are removed that could impact her ability to urinate. From there, she will be taken into surgery to address the bony structure and assess what internal connections may need to be adjusted or reconstructed.
If her pain is well managed, the goal is for Sammy to return to her foster home the following day, with surgery tentatively planned for the end of May. In the meantime, Sammy is doing well. Her seizures are currently under control, and she remains bright, happy, and full of personality.

Sammy (fka Suzanne) is settling into foster care very well. She will see the specialist on the 30th to determine whether any additional genital surgery is needed. We are so happy to see her safe, comfortable, and adjusting well.

Suzanne is now Sammy. Her seizures appear to be under control, but she still has several medical concerns to address. Because she has both male and female anatomy, she was spayed but may still need surgery to remove the os penis along with possible urinary reconstruction. She has a specialist consult scheduled in the coming weeks.

Thank you to Kayla for transporting Suzanne to her wonderful foster home. Once in our care, it became clear she may need more medical treatment than first expected. She remains swollen, and if that does not improve she may need surgery soon. Additional radiographs and a veterinary consult are planned. She is currently on phenobarbital for seizures, which must be considered with any anesthesia. This neglected little girl is happy, wagging her tail, and ready for a better life.

We secured a foster for Suzanne, and she was able to leave the shelter the next morning. We are incredibly grateful to the foster who stepped up to help this special girl begin a new chapter.

She is epileptic and was found to have both male and female reproductive anatomy. She had recently been spayed, and further imaging showed additional anatomical abnormalities that may require future treatment.
She appears to have experienced neglect and was badly matted on intake, but she is gentle and deserving of compassion. Since starting seizure medication, she has not had another seizure. Suzanne is finally receiving the care and kindness she always deserved.
