Fostering a pet is a great way to help animals in need and provide them with a temporary landing spot until they find their forever home. We provide necessary supplies and support. Foster families play a vital role in establishing routine, structure, and stability. This includes providing consistent feeding schedules, proper nutrition, regular exercise, and a calm, safe environment where the dog can decompress and rebuild confidence.

Some dogs may enter foster care with medical or behavioral challenges that require patience and diligence. This can include recovery from surgery, strict feeding protocols, medication schedules, physical therapy, crate rest, or other complex care instructions. Supplies and medical care is provided at our expense. All veterinary care must be coordinated through Delco Dawgs, and foster homes are responsible for transportation to appointments. Foster families agree to follow all veterinary guidance and communicate closely with their assigned Foster Coordinator.

In addition to physical care, foster homes help prepare dogs for adoption through positive reinforcement training, appropriate socialization, and exposure to normal household routines. Teaching basic manners, building trust, and supporting healthy interactions with people and other animals are critical steps in setting each dog up for long-term success.

Delco Dawgs retains legal ownership of all foster animals during the foster period. Foster homes may not rehome, transfer, alter, or make medical decisions for a dog without prior approval. If circumstances change, communication with the rescue is required.
